Apto recently welcomed partners, colleagues and regional leaders to our new campus site in Fuenlabrada, marking an important moment in the development of what is set to become the largest data centre campus in the Madrid cloud region.
This visit on 13 March brought together senior representatives from the Comunidad de Madrid alongside project partners, including our development partner Arnaiz, to see first-hand how the site is progressing and to share in the vision and plans behind the development.
This milestone comes at a time when demand for hyperscale data centre infrastructure and power-secured capacity is accelerating across Europe.
A major step for Madrid’s digital infrastructure
The Madrid campus represents a significant investment in Europe’s digital future, with up to €2 billion committed and total planned capacity of 240MW across five data centres.
Located just outside the city, the 195,000m² site is being transformed from a former industrial facility into a hyperscale-ready platform designed to support cloud and AI infrastructure at scale.
With enabling works already completed, including a 40MW on-site substation, the project is now moving into construction following approval of the first phase.
With power availability now a defining factor in infrastructure delivery, the campus has been designed with a grid-first approach, anchored by early investment in on-site power infrastructure.
Together, this positions the campus as one of the most significant new digital infrastructure developments in the Madrid region.

On the ground in Fuenlabrada
We were honoured to host Rocío Albert López-Ibor, Councillor for Economy, Taxation and Employment of the Comunidad de Madrid, alongside representatives from the regional government, Invest in Madrid and the Ayuntamiento de Fuenlabrada.
The visit reflected the strong collaboration behind the project and the shared commitment to delivering long-term economic and digital value for the region.
This level of support has been instrumental in progressing the campus, which will contribute to:
- Significant regional investment
- Thousands of direct and indirect jobs
- Strengthened digital infrastructure for cloud and AI growth
- Regeneration of a previously disused industrial site

Highlights from the day are captured below:
Arrival & welcome
Senior representatives from Apto, Comunidad de Madrid and project partners gathered on site in Fuenlabrada to mark the next phase of development. The visit began with a series of introductions and informal conversations, bringing together public and private stakeholders behind the project.

Site tour: from brownfield to hyperscale infrastructure
The group toured the site, including the completed substation and power infrastructure; a critical foundation for the campus. Discussions focused on the transformation of the former industrial site, the scale of the energy infrastructure already in place, and the next stages of development.

Presentations & project vision
Following the tour, guests gathered for presentations outlining the vision for the campus and its role in supporting Madrid’s digital growth. Speakers from Apto, Arnaiz and the Comunidad de Madrid shared perspectives on investment, infrastructure and long-term regional impact.

Group moments
Several group moments captured the people behind the project; from regional leadership and investors to delivery partners and the Apto team. These images reflect the collaboration required to bring a development of this scale forward.

Media & interviews
The visit concluded with media interviews and press engagement, highlighting the significance of the project for both the region and the wider European digital infrastructure landscape.

A shared milestone
This visit marked more than a project update, it was a moment to recognise the progress already made and the collective effort behind it. From early site works and power infrastructure through to construction readiness, the campus is now moving forward with strong regional support and a clear sense of momentum.
We were honoured to welcome Rocío Albert López-Ibor, Minister of Economy, alongside representatives from the Comunidad de Madrid, including Jaime Martínez, General Director of Economy and Industry, and Luis Socias, Executive Director of Invest in Madrid, to the site.
We would also like to thank the Ayuntamiento de Fuenlabrada, our development partner Arnaiz, and all project partners and stakeholders supporting the delivery of this campus.
Developments of this scale are only possible through close collaboration, and it was a privilege to bring together the people helping to shape the next phase of digital infrastructure in the region.
We look forward to continuing this collaboration as the project moves into the next phase.
